'Phoenix Rising' Concert Raises $175,000 For STATION FAMILY FUND
March 3, 2008Michael Marotta of BostonHerald.com reports that last week's Phoenix Rising benefit concert — featuring performances by TWISTED SISTER, TESLA, WINGER, STAIND's Aaron Lewis, BOSTON's Tom Scholz and country artists including John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Dierks Bentley and Kelly Pickler — raised more than $175,000 for the Station Family Fund, the organization that distributes money to victims and victims' families affected by the 2003 nightclub fire that claimed the lives of 100 music fans and severely injured 200 others.
"Even with attendance at the concert lower (than anticipated),the amount of donated expenses kept us clearly in the black," said Station Family Fund co-creator Todd King.
Close to 6,000 fans turned out to see the show, highlights of which will air on VH1 on March 23.
